Hands Free Law

On July 1st, 2008, you can't use you're cell phones when your driving.
Forty-one percent of drivers in California and Washington use their cell phones while driving, and 47 percent say they already use a hands-free device.
One in four respondents age 34 or younger admitted to text messaging while driving.
Only half of the California respondents could correctly identify July 1, 2008 as the date the hands-free law goes into effect; awareness levels in Washington State were even lower.
Nearly three out of 10 respondents believed the law is already in effect in Washington.
Support for the hands-free legislation is high with close to three out of five regarding phone use while driving to be very dangerousbut only two out of five say they will use their phone less.

This is a smart law. I just wish people would actually obey this law instead of being ignorant and just holding your phone anyway or texting

I am glad that this law has been in effect because if someone doesn't have full attention on the rode than serious damage can happen.

I believe this law is very smart. A lot of accidents nowadays are caused by people who are more worried about there phones then whose in front of them.

I actually agree with this law. It is not safe to talk on the phone, and it's just plain stupid to try and text while driving.

This is a very GOOD law. because we have no many crashes that are caused by being on the cell phone or an ipod. SO being hands free with be safer for all.

I highly disagree with this law for many reasons. Eating in the car is just as big of a distraction as talking on the phone and/or texting. People become easily distracted trying to make their headset work. There are many distractions while driving and i think cell phone use should be admitted.

The hands Free law is a smart law. people spend so much time on there phone when there driving its crazy. i am glad it was made.

i think this law is good, if everyone follows it. cell phones are really distracting when driving but people still talk on their cell phones, so its not changing anything.

i think that when people use their hands-free devices, they drive a little safer, but not much. because if they want to call someone they have to look down at their phone and take their eyes off of the road. so really, its not all the way hands-free.
in some ways it makes driving safer, and in other ways, nothing changes

I think that the people that made this law were very smart because lots of people get in accidents because they were either talking or texting to someone on there cell phone. with this law then people would less likely get in an accident.

I think this is a good law because when I get to drive i dont want anyone crashing into me. I'd want them to focus on the road then talking on the phone.

I like this law because it reuces the amount of accidents. Also traffic wont be as slow.

I think this is a good law. It decreases the chances of having a car crash because someone wasn't focusing on driving. Its safer.

i think that the hands free law is good. it prevents accidents because people will now have two hands to drive with, instead of 1 on the wheel and a phone in the other.

i think this law sucks
my mom is just as distracted using onstar as she is using a phone
so i dont think this has solved anything

Even though this law is enforced. I don't believe it is being followed. People all over are still talking on their phones using things such as blue tooth, and if this law is suppose to help people not be distracted. It's not working, people are still talking.

I'm really glad for this law, I mean its just plain common sense! Texting while driving is extremely dangerous. Talking on a phone while driving isn't as dangerous, but its still distracting. So yeah, yay for this law!

This is a legitamate law. the majority of car accidents were caused by distractions, according to the DMV. some of those distrations were cell phones: texting, holding the phone, even looking at pictures can be a costly mistake.

The handsfree law is one of the best laws that was ever put in use I think, because people would crash and not pay attention to the road instead they would have their focus on their phone

people are so careless these days with all of these accident happening in America they should hand out hands free devices to everyone.

I think this law is a good thing because the use of phones while driving is a problem that causes accidents. This law will keep the streets safer.
